JOHN WHELAN | Sr. Associate
John Whelan is a senior litigation attorney, well-seasoned in the art of persuasive advocacy. Whelan has been practicing law since 1994, and in that time has represented scores of clients in state and federal court, both at the trial and appellate level. Whelan has considerable experience in representing clients in complex litigation, where he has faced-off against some of the most powerful companies in the world. His published opinions include Unocal Corp. v. United States, et al., 222 F.3d 528 (9th Cir. 2000), Dearborn v. Mar Ship Operations, Inc. 113 F.3d 995 (9th Cir. 1997) and Torres v. M/V Fuiono, 141 F. Supp. 2d 1020 (S.D. Cal. 2001).
Whelan obtained a degree in Economics from the University of Michigan in 1983, before pursuing a career as a helicopter pilot in the United States Marine Corps. As a distinguished officer with the rank of Major, Whelan gained invaluable experience in crisis management, leadership, conflict resolution and strategic planning. In 1994, Whelan graduated from the University of Southern California School of Law, where he received numerous scholastic accolades.
