On October 18th, 2022, MLG Attorneys at Law further centralized the fight with Kia and Hyundai by contacting California Governor Gavin Newsom. The letter encourages the Governor’s office to initiate litigation against Kia and Hyundai for their engine immobilizer defect, pointing out that thousands of California consumers have been severely impacted. In September, MLG Attorneys at Law filed a national class action lawsuit against Kia and Hyundai for a defect exposed by a trending TikTok challenge. The class action pointed out that vehicles not equipped with an engine immobilizer allow them to be easily stolen using a screwdriver and USB cord.
The Los Angeles Police Department has seen car thefts nearly double since the same time last year, and are diverting substantial resources to the widespread problem. “Given that Kia and Hyundai avail themselves of the benefits of California’s protections, and that there are more citizens being harmed in California than any other state, Governor Newsom should take center stage in protecting its residents and hold the Kia and Hyundai,” said Jonathan Michaels, principal at MLG Attorneys at Law.
